St. Anthony's School

Boy's Primary

The boys primary school is where most of Build Up St Anthonys' work is carried out. It is a full primary school with 8 year groups. The first 5 year groups have 2 classes per year but in the last 3 years there is only a need for one class per year group. There are over 1000 boys in the primary school, averaging 80 per class.

The Project

Girl's Primary

The girls primary school has boarding facilities, which brings an income into the school. The fees charged only just cover costs but it does mean that the school has slightly better facilities by Malawian standards. There are around 1200 pupils at the girls primary school.

Secondary

The secondary school is a government run community day school. They offer a wider range of subjects but are limited by their lack of facilities. The secondary school has over 200 pupils.

Nursery

The nursery school was built and founded by British graduate Gina Rose in 2002. Gina still funds the school from support here in the UK and she visits once a year to monitor its progress. For more information, visit the website. www.thenurseymalawi.co.uk

What we aim to do...

Re-build this classroom block that is currently not used due to disrepair.

There is currently space for 2 classrooms and a small library. We intend to provide 2 larger classrooms and a much larger, well stocked library.

Classroom Block

Renovate the school hall (the white building to the left of this picture) so that it can be used for assemblies in the rainy season and local or school productions.

The hall primarily needs new ceiling tiles, a new cement floor and chairs.

School Hall and block
Provide textbooks, sports equipment and for any major stationery needs that the school has whilst trustees are there.

Standard 4 Class
Whilst in Malawi the trustees of Build Up St. Anthony's will be teaching in the school and will help to initiate community programmes in health, welfare, hygiene and safety as well as communication and basic business skills. These services will be made available to parents of the pupils and members of the local community.
